Computer Message Log

A computer's message log can provide you with important diagnostics information in case the computer isn't behaving as expected.

To view the message log, select ANALYZE > Computers > Computer Search, and search for a computer. Then, in the search results, click the name of the required computer, and then select the Message Log tab.

When you view a message log, note that the Severity column uses numbers to indicate the severity of each message:

  • Informational: 0-10
  • Use-related: 11-127
  • Minor error: 128
  • Severe error: 129
  • Blocking error: 130

The list shows the default relation between numbers and severity levels. Different number/severity relations may be used in your organization. Ask your PerformanceGuard administrator if you're in doubt.

I see a log entry about "Agent restart." What's that?

The PerformanceGuard agents installed on computers continuously monitor themselves. In some cases, for example if an agent finds that it uses too much of its host computer's memory, an agent may decide to restart itself in order to perform better. Such restarts will be logged in the message log with additional information about what caused the agent to restart itself. You can read more about the PerformanceGuard agent's self checks in Agent Self-Surveiliance.

Read more about how to interpret selected log messages in Diagnose Computer Message Log.
