In order to let CapaInstaller communicate with your Apple Business Manager, you need to upload a server token to CapaInstaller, which can be retrieved from your Apple Business Manager portal.

Link to a new Apple Business MDM Server:

  1. Open System Administration and expand the Software Accounts node.
  2. Right-click Apple Device Enrollment Programs and select Add, which will open the DEP Server wizard.
  3. Click the Export Public key button and choose a location to save the file. (Ignore the link in the wizard)
  4. Open a browser and sign in on https://business.apple.com,
  5. Navigate to Settings, select Device Management Settings, and click Add MDM Server.
  6. Name the server and upload the public key file, select the file created in step 3.
  7. Click Save and download the server token generated. (.p7m file)
  8. Go back to the DEP Server wizard in CapaInstaller, and upload the server token. Click Next.
  9. Information about the MDM server will be displayed. Verify it is the correct server, and click the Create button, to complete the wizard.

The Apple Business MDM Server will be added below the Apple Device Enrollment Programs node, and a replicator will be scheduled to periodically synchronize between Apple Business and CapaInstaller

If you use more than one console, the token will be synchronized to the other consoles.

Renewing an Apple Business MDM server token

Apple DEP server tokens expire after a year, and it could become invalid for other reasons before that. The following steps will help you renew a DEP server token when needed.

  1. Navigate to Software Accounts > Apple Device Enrollment Programs. Right-click your DEP server and select Properties.
  2. Click the Export Public key button and choose a location to save the file.
  3. Open a browser and sign in on Apple Business Manager.
  4. Navigate to Settings and select Device Management Settings and select the correct server in the list.
  5. Click on Edit and click on Upload New to upload the public key created in step 3 and click Apply
  6. Download the server token generated. (.p7m file).
  7. Go back to the DEP Server properties dialog in CapaInstaller, and upload the server token.
  8. Click OK and Close the dialog.

If you use more than one console, the token will be synchronized to the other consoles.
