Create devices
Devices consist of smartphones and tablets in the organization, and they can be created as entities in Configuration Management in two ways.
Prestage device
A device can be Prestaged by an administrator by creating the device manually in Configuration Management. This is done in the Create new unit window, which can be accessed through either 'File -> Create unit', or right-clicking Units in the navigation pane and selecting 'Create Unit'.
Specify a name and select either Smartphone or tablet as the unit type. The model can be specified but will be automatically updated when hardware inventory is collected the first time. It is required to either specify the IMEI number or serial number, which is used to match this pre-staged device with the physical device once it has been enrolled and inventory data has been collected.
A primary user can also be attached to the device by clicking the Primary user browse button and specifying an AD entry.
Enroll Device
A device can be added as an entity in Configuration Management by enrolling it from the device itself.
Make sure that you have given the correct enrollment permissions to users that perform the enrollment if CapaInstaller security is enabled. If Security is enabled, the default setting is that no one has permission to enroll.
If the IMEI or serial number on an enrolled device matches that of a pre-staged device, they are merged into one entity. Any profiles already assigned to it will be deployed.
